Lawyer Charles Thiong'o elected Kiambu Assembly speaker

Lawyer Charles Thiong'o elected as the speaker of Kiambu county Assembly. His rival Daniel Gachau stepped down for him for the second round of voting.

Members of the Kiambu county Assembly have elected lawyer Charles Thiong'o as the speaker of Assembly.

The exercise was conducted in presence of Governor Kimani Wamatangi and clerk of the assembly John Mutie.

Thiong'o contested for Githunguri parliamentary seat on UDA but lost to Gathoni Wamuchonba during the nomination exercise.

A total of 86 members of the County Assembly voted, and 26  of them were nominated.

Among those who contested in the first round includes Charles Thiong'o (53), Daniel Mwangi Gachau(26) Njenga Murugami (1), Francis Waruingi Kahuha(3), Josphat Kamanya( 3) and Edwin Mungai (0).

In the second round, Daniel Gachau stepped down for Thiong'o and was therefore declared the winner.

Among those in attendance included Wamatangi (Governor), Karungo Thangwa (senator), Simon Kingar'a (MP Ruiru), John wanjiku (MP Kiambaa), George Koimburi(MP Juja), Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North) and Mburu Kahangara (Lari MP) and women representative Ann Wamuratha.
