Police in Kabondo Kasipul are looking for a gang of 10 men who escaped after attacking and robbing a family of Sh30,000 on Monday night.

The incident, which occurred at the home of Seth Ogweno in Kojwach Kawere sublocation, was perpetrated by men who masqueraded as officers because they were in police uniforms.

Two were armed with guns while others had crude weapons.

They gained entry into Ogweno's house at around 8pm and roughed him  and his wife up before they conducted a search in the house. They also ordered them to surrender valuables.

One of the neighbours said some suspects remained at the gate to keep vigilance while others entered their house to executive their mission.

Kojwach Kawere assistant chief Isaiah Ondoro said the home is located 100 metres from Kisii- Kisumu Road.

Speaking to journalists over the matter on Tuesday, Ondoro said the suspected criminals took away the cash which Ogweno's wife had received from their merry-go-round.

“The suspects must have received information that the woman was a beneficiary of the money. They waylaid her before forcibly taking the money,” Ondoro said.

The suspected also took away a TV set, music system and a solar panel. The assistant chief said Ogweno also operates a shop at home.

The suspected criminals did not spare a two-year-old child who was crying as they were ransacking the house.

“One of the men took the child away and abandoned him in a maize plantation outside the home. They suspected the child would raise an alarm through his cry,” he said.

Rachuonyo East deputy county commissioner Job Kemei said the case is being investigated.

Kemei said they have summoned Ogweno to their office to record a statement over the matter, adding that his office is liaising with the police to trace the suspects.
