Governor Barasa intensifies ODM visibility in Kakamega

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has intensified branding of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Kakamega County in a quest to ensure the party remains vibrant, a year after the general polls.

Barasa who is the interim ODM chairperson in Kakamega County declared his firm support for party leader Raila Odinga and deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya.

“I want to confirm that we are going to open and brand party offices in the 12 sub-counties. We will also ensure the offices are well equipped with furniture and the rent is paid,” Barasa said.

Barasa was speaking when he met party officials from the 12 sub-counties and 60 wards at a local hotel in Kakamega town.

The first-term county boss noted that the constitution allows elected leaders from the devolved units to collaborate with the national government on matters of development.

“Working with the government of the day is not a political collaboration, we are working together for development and it’s a decision that has been made by several elected leaders across the country,” he said.

Further, he noted that grassroots leadership recognizes decisions made by the ODM National Executive Council.

ODM leaders present at the meeting include Mophat Mandela (former Kakamega chairman) and Owen Musoma.

Azimio la Umoja alliance Governors who have committed to work with the national government include Paul Otuoma (Busia), George Natembeya (Trans Nzoia), and Gideon Mung’aro (Kilifi).

Others are Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Julius Malombe (Kitui) and Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado).
