At least 62 ECDE teachers in Marsabit begin 4-day CBC training

Sololo Sub county ECDE teachers with officers from directorate of education led by chief officer Qabale Adhi Bulbul on Monday during the beginning of four days training on CBC.

More than 62 early childhood development education teachers in three wards within Sololo Sub-county began their four-day training on competency-based curriculum on Monday at Sololo Ramata Gumi Hall.

Ninety-nine ECDE teachers have been trained so far in four wards out of seven in the Moyale constituency.

Speaking on Monday, CECM education Ambaro Abdullahi said the training on CBC will provide ECDE teachers with the tools, knowledge and understanding necessary for the successful implementation of competency-based curriculum in schools.

She said the training has been an essential step towards enhancing the quality of education and nurturing the potential of the learners.

Abdullahi said Marsabit's ECDE teachers have dedication and unwavering commitment to their teaching by ensuring that learners receive education that equips them for the day-to-day challenges.

"CBC emphasizes learning by doing critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and innovation," she said.

The former high school principal described a competency-based curriculum as a beacon of hope that illuminates the path to a brighter and more prosperous future for learners.

She thanked teachers for their commitment and hard work, urging them to continue to strive for excellence in education and work together to transform the lives of the pupils and the future of the county.

"The true measure of success will be the positive impact we make on the lives of our pupils," said education CECM.

She reminded teachers that they need to remain flexible and open to new ideas and innovations support, share best practices and learn from experience.

Ambaro encouraged teachers to involve parents and guardians in a competency-based curriculum saying its success depends on the active engagement of all stakeholders.

"Together we can create an educational environment that empowers our learners to achieve their full potential and become responsible and productive members of society," She said

The executive said the gross enrolment in ECDE was largely contributed by the construction of more than 137 ECDE classrooms, improved sanitation and school feeding programs in all 365 ECDE centres.

"The county directorate of education annually distributes ECDE learning materials to enhance conducive learning environment." She said

Ambaro said Governor Mohamud Ali's administration employed more than 235 ECDE teachers and built and renovated 21 ECDE centres to ensure that young learners have favourable learning environments with a promise to employ more than 100 early childhood development education teachers.

Marsabit education officer Qabale Adhi Bulbul said the training of CBC was necessary for the teachers as it equip them with knowledge of competency-based curriculum.

She said by the end of the training, teachers will be able to design and interpret the CBC framework and curriculum, observation schedules, written examinations and learner profiles.

The chief officer of education said the training of ECDE teachers in Sololo Sub-county is meant to achieve the professional development of teachers.

The former teacher lauded the new system of education saying it will enrich the learners for a better future.

She said her directorate of education is planning to employ at least 100 ECDE teachers and supervisors for coordination and quality assurance.

She said the plan by the county government to have quality assessment officers at every ward level was to improve the academic performance of learners.

"Don't lose hope, our governor has a good plan for you to ensure that you are absorbed on permanent and pensionable terms to ensure quality education for our children," She said

Qabale encouraged teachers across the county to take advantage of free training to improve the quality of early childhood development education.

She said the county government under the leadership of Governor Mohamud Ali is committed to raising education standards, providing infrastructure support and learning and teaching materials.

She urged teachers to ensure that they work with passion, compassion and care as demanded by the teaching profession.

Sololo World vision project officer Dido Guracha said his organization is committed to partnership for effective child well-being.

He said they collaborated with the marsabit county directorate of Education to conduct training for ECDE teachers on CBC.

Dido said World Vision is advocating for a child protection agenda through the establishment of 40 child protection volunteers from various locations within Sololo Sub-county.

He said through child advisory committees and sub-county child protection stakeholder's forums, they addressed issues of child protection.

"We have saved 3 girls from early marriages and connected 2 girls to safe rescue centres," he said

Dido said they empowered communities to protect children from any form of harm or abuse so that children will grow to enjoy life in all its fullness.

While echoing Dido's sentiment, World Vision child protection and Adult safeguarding advocacy officer Wario Qalicha said they supported more than 2,213 vulnerable households in Sololo Sub-county with a cash transfers program during flash floods and drought.

He said they also subsidized fees for 128 vulnerable students whose family livelihood was swept away during the drought, the support that enabled them to remain in school.

Teachers who attended free training in competency-based curriculum are in support of the new system of education.

Guyatu Ali, a teacher at Sololo Ramata, said CBC is good and focuses on learning as opposed to the 8.4.4 system of education which is exam-oriented.

"CBC is the best curriculum in this century. CBC is more practical and will churn out graduates who will be self-reliant in the job market in the technical field," said Guyatu
