The Kenya Rural Rural Roads Authority is undertaking several projects in Kwale to improve the livelihoods of residents and beyond.
One of the projects is the Mwachande Bridge at River Ramisi. It is on Milalani-Kikoneni-Mwangulu road, which connects Lungalunga and Msambweni constituencies. The bridge is expected to cost Sh537,584,281.
The Mwachande Bridge is one of the most critical infrastructure developments at the Coast, linking thousands of people to markets and amenities like hospitals.
Once completed, it will also facilitate faster access to the South Coast and provide a link to the Mwananyamala Industrial Park, which is bound to change the economic fortunes of Kwale county.
KeRRA Director General Philemon Kandie said the project will open up the areas to greater economic activity by linking them to major roads and promoting trade in nearby market centres.
It will also ease transportation of farm produce to markets and movement of residents. Fishing, agriculture and tourism are the main economic activities in the area.
Kandie was speaking when he accompanied Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen during his tour of the Coast this week.
The Funzi Causeway in Msambweni constituency off the A14 motorway in Milalani, will cost Sh1,167,865,925.20.
The existing gravel road consists of two links - the 5.5km Milalani-Munje section and the 7.4km Munje-Funzi Primary School stretch.
The other project is the upgrading to bitumen standard and performance-based routine maintenance of Kunzi Causeway Road.
