Makueni County marked a historic milestone in nurturing Devolution with the inaugural graduation of 35 students from the Makueni School of Devolution and Community-led Development on Thursday.
The School, based at the old County Treasury building off Wote-Makindu road, was commissioned by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on March 16, 2023 to enhance devolution capacities for the implementation of devolved functions
The pioneer cohort of 35 public servants underwent comprehensive six-month training in ten vital topics including Understanding Devolution and Localization of Sustainable Development Goals in Kenya; Community-led Development; Community-led Governance; Community-led Climate Action; Participatory Planning and Budgeting; Project Management; Access to Information and Good Governance; Social Accountability; and Development Communication.
The graduation ceremony was graced by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Executive Committee Member and Chief Officer Devolution as well as directors from the Movement for Community-led Development.
"As counties we run all our errands in the devolved unit therefore it's a great achievement for all the public servants who have graduated, this is a big plus for it will increase efficiency in implementation at various capacities," said Mulili.
The school is scheduled to open applications in December this year to students from public service, members of the public, and organized groups.
