Migori police arrested two foreigners with explosives worth Sh9 million along the country's border with Tanzania.

Migori County Police Commander Francis Nguli said the suspects were arrested after a tip-off from the public.

“The explosives were being transported without any valid documents and the suspects said it was to be used in gold mining. We are investigating the matter,” Nguli told the press on Thursday.

Nguli said the suspects were transporting the explosives to an unknown destination using a Toyota Probox vehicle when the police arrested them.

“They were sneaking the haul through the country illegally,” he added.

He said the two suspects did not have any travel documents.

The county police commander said the two suspects are in police custody waiting for further investigation and arraignment.

“We thank members of the public for tipping off the security officers who also managed to respond promptly," he said.

He said the police will continue working closely with the public so that they can stop illegal trade along the border of Kenya and Tanzania.
