The Suba Lowland Sports tournament, which kicked off on Monday, has attracted six teams that are battling to lift the trophy.

Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan was the chief guest during the tournament's opening matches on Monday.

Football clubs participating in the five-day campaigns include Mfangano FC, Kaksingri FC, Gwasi FC, Rusinga FC, Gembe FC, and Lambwe FC

So far, according to the day two Suba Lowland Sports tournament standing table, Gwasi FC is at the top with six points while Kaksingri and Lambwe are at position two and three, respectively, at four points each.

Gembe and Rusinga FC have three points each while Mfangano is at the bottom of the table.

During their encounter on the second day of the tournament on Tuesday, Rusinga FC won after beating Lambwe 3-1.

Rusinga's side, captained by Alex Audrey, made life unbearable for their opponents when they opened the scoreline in the 14th minute into the opening match.

The first goal was scored by Koffi Labile while the captain scored the second and third goals, giving Rusinga a clear win.

A score by Bruce Odiwuor in the 78th minute of the game could not save Lambwe FC from the humiliating defeat.

During the second match of the day, Gwasi FC beat Gembe by scoring 2 goals into the second half.

The two goals were fired by Shaun Billing who sealed the fate of Gembe that failed to score any goal at the end of the game.

Energized Lambwe FC ended their encounter with Mfangano on a good note after they scored 2-1.

In the hands of coach Peter Odongo, Lambwe drowned the Islanders with Bruce Odiwuor opening the scores in the 24th minute into the third game of day two of the tournament Kennedy Ajuaga scored the second goal that gave his side a sweet victory.

Bruce Olita's 6th minute goal failed to secure Mfangano, a valuable comeback into the game.

A tough encounter between Kaksingri FC and Gwasi ended with 1-0 giving Kaksingri an edge over their rivals during the last match of the second day of the event at Nyakiamo Stadium in Sindo.

Kaksingri 's Young Kamaria saved his camp when he scored the winning goal during the second half of the match.

The interior PS Dr Raymond Omollo, who is the patron of the Suba Lowland Sports tournament and other dignitaries, is expected to watch the finals at Nyakiamo Stadium on Friday.

The event's coordinator, Michael Odari, said the ladies' match between Suba South vs. Suba North will be played as part of the finals on Friday.

The tournament, whose revival took the personal intervention of the interior PS Dr Raymond Omollo, is back after a 27-year lull.

It was last held in 1996. The PS agreed to sponsor it following a request made to him by a team of professionals from Suba in June.

A six-member committee was put in place to organise the tournament with the PS as the patron.

The tournament, according to the organisers, is expected to help with talent development and as a recruitment ground for the youth by major national soccer teams.

It has also brought people from diverse groups together to boost local entrepreneurs in the transport, food, and hospitality sectors.

The event is further contributing to making the Talent Hela initiative of the Kenya Kwanza Government a reality for the local population.
