The Spouse of Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Gachagua received by ACK Mt Kenya South dioceses Bishop Charles Muturi at Kabete in Kiambu county.

A lot of men in the Kabete constituency in Kiambu county have been forced to stay single after women reportedly declined their marriage proposals.

You may ask yourself why is it so? Well according to some of the men who spoke to Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Gachagua— Women in the area considered them dirty and drunk, making them not suitable to marry them.

Thirty-four-year-old Simon Njonge says that he has tried to get married several times, but his drinking habit has made him lose several women.

“I cannot stop drinking alcohol. I lost a job since at times I could not report for duty. I was sacked, and I continued drinking cheap alcohol without caution,” Njonge said.

“When I was still working, I had a beautiful lady who was a teacher. I lost her because I was so dirty, smelled alcohol and I was always drunk. She tried to talk to me to stop, but I couldn't."

Njonge spoke at Kibichiku Secondary School ground when the Spouse of Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Gachagua attended a medical camp to talk to the boy child.

Gachagua was accompanied by area MP Githua Wamacukuru, Kiambu Deputy Governor Mary Kirika and ACK Mt Kenya Dioceses Bishop Charles Muturi among others.

Njonge said most men of his age have no wives since they share the same predicaments.

While Gachagua was addressing them, they jointly told her that they do not have wives since the alcohol and drugs sold in the area have left them dirty, weak, careless and useless.

“We don’t have wives. People have rejected us since we are weak, dirty and jobless” they said in unison while Gachagua was addressing them.

Gachagua urged the church and the community to support her bid to fight alcohol and drug abuse.

She said it was sad since the young men hold the seeds to procreate the community, but they cannot plant them.

“I will facilitate your counselling, you will be rehabilitated, you will be clean until the beautiful young ladies you see start looking for you,” she said.

“We will not watch you sleep on the roadsides at the trading centres. You are the society, you have the required seeds” Pastor Dorcas said.

The Second Lady said the initiative her office has started was aimed at eliminating alcohol and drug abuse in the region and the country at large.

She asked church leaders to go for the drunkards in the streets and their neighbourhoods and accommodate them in churches to conquer the addiction.
