Former agriculture Principal Secretary Dr Richard Lesiyampe is the new Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital chief executive officer.
He has replaced Dr George Rae who has headed the hospital for five years.
Dr Lesiyampe will on Thursday officially take over the office after Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o appointed him.
County health executive Dr Gregory Ganda said the new CEO takes over to deliver the second phase of the county’s health transformation.
“It is a short-term contract of six months. He is strategically recruited for a transformative role,” Dr Ganda said.
He described Dr Lesiyampe as a seasoned transformative leader and manager with a wealth of experience.
He was also the former CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital where he steered the facility towards excellence.
Dr Ganda applauded Dr Rae for his service and contribution towards the growth of JOOTRH.
Locals have also hailed the appointment and believed that he will transform the facility.
