Migori town residents have called on police to increase patrols after an insecurity threat left three people dead and two injured with gunshot wounds in two different incidents.
On Wednesday morning, Migori town residents woke up in shock after the body of Elly Ochieng, 24, was found in a ditch along the busy Migori-Isebania road.
Felix Opiyo, assistant chief of the Lower Marindi sub-location said the deceased, a resident of the Geto area in Migori town, was murdered after nighttime attacks.
“We have been grappling with nighttime robberies and insecurity and we suspect the deceased was killed by unknown assailants,” Opiyo said.
The deceased had bruises on the body and the left leg broken.
On Monday morning, two people were shot dead and two others seriously injured after gangsters wreaked havoc the previous night at Ntimaru town in Kuria East Constituency.
Ntimaru sub-county police boss Kennedy Osando said the two people who were shot were rushed to Migori Hospital and are in stable condition.
He said they have started investigations over the incident which will include liaising with their colleagues in nearby Tanzania.
Martine Owino, a Migori town resident and chairman of Calotra Sacco where Ochieng’ belonged said the recent incidents have raised concerns.
“We are living in shock and we want police to increase patrols in major towns and the public to help in reporting suspects,” Owino said.
