Migori police shot dead five suspected gangsters on Tuesday night after trailing them for days.
Police sources said the suspects have been behind a spate of crime in Migori and neighbouring counties and are part of the '42 brothers gang’, a notorious group behind a spate of crime.
Ben Aliwa, Nyabisawa location senior chief, said the five were trailed when in a vehicle and shot at the Nyamasongo area by members of the flying squad.
“We received a call from members of that five people were shot along a highway and we left with police from Nyabisawa police post and others from headquarters to the scene,” Aliwa said.
The five were inside a vehicle which was sprayed with bullets before it stopped at the side of the road.
The suspects were found with house-breaking equipment.
“We had several cases of burglary in the area including one in a popular bar where equipment was stolen,” Aliwa said.
The gang are said to have picked a vehicle from Migori town for taxi self-drive services to a popular club in Nyakweri centre, Nyatike area.
But police officers are said to have been trailing the gang for long before they struck.
