A woman has been arrested after she was found in possession of counterfeited second-generation liquor in Machakos County.
The suspect was arrested after officers from Machakos police station stormed her premises, a residential house, along Machakos – Kitui road in the Kathayoni area on Tuesday.
The matter was reported to Machakos police station as the recovery of counterfeit alcoholic drinks and the arrest of the suspect.
“Today, police officers from Machakos police station led by the area OCS acting on intelligence information stormed the joint located along Machakos – Kitui road at a place called Kathayoni where upon search, 30 cartons of 250ml and 20 pieces of 250ml of the same brand, counterfeited second generation liquor were found and taken to the same station as exhibits,” a police source told the Star on Tuesday.
“The suspect was arrested and placed in custody. She was also found to be operating a wines and spirits joint without a liquor licence."
Another suspect escaped the police dragnet during the operations.
The two suspects are said to have been making the liquor in the house where they were recovered, their residence, before packaging them into branded bottles and cartons.
The said liquor is suspected to be already circulating in the market. Police are in hot pursuit of the suspect on the run.
Elsewhere in Athi River, Machakos County, a man was on Monday arrested after he was found in possession of bhang.
The suspect was arrested after he was found with the banned substance at Kisumu Ndogo slum within Athi River Township.
“The operation was conducted under the command of the OCS Athi River police station within Kisumu Ndogo, Tuskeys area following a tip-off. The officers acting on the same managed to seize about 18kgs of narcotic drugs suspected to be bhang, CMM three weighing scales, two plastic bowls containing eleven rolls of bhang and a plastic glass and trough,” a police report seen by the Star reads in part.
“In the process, one male adult was arrested. Exhibits were registered in the inventory and the suspect was placed in custody pending arraignment before CM’s court Mavoko."
On the same day in Masinga, a man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a church he belongs to as a member and stealing an assortment of items.
The 38–year–old guitarist at AIC Kitula church was arrested by the public and handed over to officers from the Kaewa police post within the Masinga subcounty.
Among the items said to have been stolen by the suspect were a gas cylinder and gas hose.
He was also accused of making a copy of the church’s keys.
The suspect has been locked up at the same police post pending arraignment at Kithimani Law Courts.
