A ten-year-old boy died by suicide inside their house on Friday evening in Samira, Madogo Town in Tana River County.
In an incident that has left both neighbours and residents shocked.
The Grade 5 pupil left his peers who were playing a few metres from the house and went straight to their mud-thatched house to do the unthinkable.
According to Roseline Nyateta a neighbour and friend of the mother, the deceased had not shown any signs of stress or mental disturbance before the incident.
“I was not around when the incident happened but I am told he just left his friends outside playing before going straight into the house. They only started suspecting something was amiss when they called him and he failed to respond,” she said.
“It is only when they went into the house to check that they found his body hanging on a rope."
When the press visited the area, shocked residents were milling around the house all curious to catch a glimpse of the body that was still hanging. The police had not yet arrived.
The boy's mother who was not around at the time of the incident was wailing in pain as neighbours tried to console her.
Grace Mwangangi, her grandmother regretted the turn of events saying that it was extremely sad to lose a child.
“I am always with this boy most of the time and I have never noticed anything suspicious that would have made me think he could end up taking his own life. He was such a disciplined and loving boy. I am lost for words,” he said.
The police later arrived and took the body to the mortuary at the Garissa County referral hospital.
