An-eight-year old boy has been found dead hours after he was reported missing in Yatta, Machakos County.
The deceased’s body was retrieved from a stream along Garissa-Nairobi Highway in Matuu area, Yatta Subcounty on Monday.
“The child is said to have been killed and his body dumped in the stream before it was discovered on Monday morning,” an eye witness told the Star on phone.
The child is said to have gone missing on Sunday evening only to be discovered dead.
Police have launched investigations into the child’s death.
The residents barricaded Kithimani-Matuu road to express their anger accusing police of laxity.
They blocked the road using stones thereby completely paralysing transport.
Some motorists were forced to park their vehicles along the road and wait for the demonstrators to stop their protests for it to be cleared.
According to eyewitnesses, residents were demonstrating against police officers for allegedly delaying to respond to the scene of the incident after they were informed.
“Locals staged protests against police officers who they accused of taking long to respond to the scene for body collection,” he added.
The protestors said the officers turned up to collect the body at around 11 am despite it being discovered at about 7 am.
