Three suspects including a police officer were on Friday arrested over suspected drug trafficking.

The three were allegedly found with 10 bales of cannabis in two vehicles along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

They were arrested yesterday in the Karai area in Naivasha.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics detectives intercepted the two cars; Toyota Noah and Toyota Fielder.

The anti-narcotics officials seized the drugs found to weigh 50kgs that were concealed in gunny bags.

The suspects are in custody at Muthaiga Police Station and the vehicles detained at DCI Headquarters.

In its relentless pursuit to counter trafficking in narcotics, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made significant strides in curbing drug trafficking.

In a separate incident that occurred in September, a team of detectives arrested two drug trafficking suspects in Diani and seized marijuana worth more than nine million.

The detectives acting on a crucial tip-off apprehended the first suspect who led them to a nearby drug store where they uncovered 10 sacks of Marijuana.

"We uncovered 10 sacks of Marijuana weighing 314.05kgs with an approximate street value of Sh9, 421, 500," the police said.

According to police, the pursuit led to the arrest of the main suspect, a woman aged 30 years in a nearby house.

In October, police seized more than  335kg of Bhang in two separate security operations in Machakos and Isiolo counties, arresting one suspect and impounding a motor vehicle used in trafficking some of the prohibited cargo.

In Athi River South Subcounty within Machakos County, a tip-off from a member of the public led to the recovery of 8 gunny bags containing 115kg of cannabis at a building under construction at Kwa Mang'eli area.

The cannabis recovered was estimated to be Sh3,450,000 in street value.

In the second incident, a multi-agency team intercepted a Nissan Xtrail following an intelligence report that the vehicle was ferrying narcotics along the Isiolo-Modogoshe highway.

Exhibits collected in both operations were processed and preserved as evidence, as heightened operations against drug use and trafficking continue across the country.
