Maragua MP Elias Mbau has accused his colleagues from Mt Kenya region of doing little to win support for Uhuru Kenyatta. Mbau said the MPs only say they support the Deputy Prime Minister but do nothing to boost his presidential bid.

Speaking yesterday at Kaharo Primary School where he registered as a voter, Mbau criticised his colleagues for failing to mobilise voters to join the TNA.

“You cannot say that you are fully behind the DPM when you are not doing anything to help him clinch the presidency when President Kibaki retires next year,” he said.

Mbau warned that the failure to encourage residents of the region to register as voters may cost Uhuru the presidency. “The IEBC is facing a few logistical problems and it is upto the MPs to ensure that Uhuru becomes the next president is by mobilising voters in their areas to register,” Mbau said.

He warned that only a few people from the Mt Kenya region may register. Mbau said his efforts to mobilise residents of Maragua to register are paying off because the constituency has recorded the highest number of voters in Murang'a.

Kangema MP Tirus Ngahu supported Mbau's claims saying TNA aspirants need to ask their supporters to register. Ngahu blamed the violence that marred the election of interim TNA county official’s in Murang’a on wrangles within the party.

He said the irregularities in the elections occurred due to the "selfishness of some aspirants who are meddling with the exercise".

“All aspirants eyeing the TNA ticket for the March 4 elections should respect the party and desist from inciting their supporters against those of their opponents,” Ngahu said.
