Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka has commended residents of Magumu and Githabai wards in Kinangop subcounty for accepting the Sh13 billion windmill project.
The residents had rejected the project, saying the windmill would produce radiation that would prevent them and their livestock from giving birth.
Waithaka said the change of heart by the residents is a positive gesture.
He was speaking speaking when he commissioned a floodlight in Magumu ward on Wednesday night.
The governor said the windmill project is being done by the national government and is part of flagship projects promised by the Jubilee government.
“I'm aware this project was opposed by the residents due to misinformation, but now you have all the facts about the windmill and you and your leaders have publicly accepted it,” he said.
Waithaka said his administration has put up floodlights in major urban centres such as Njabini, Engineer, Ndunyu-Njeru, Miharati, Geta, Ndaragwa, Mairo-Inya, Kasuku and Ol’ Kalou.
He said he will put up more such lights in all market centres.
“I want my people to do business for as many hours as they can. These floodlights will ensure security for all,” Waithaka said.
He criticised unnamed politicians for spreading propaganda to incite the public against the county government.
“We know some people move here at night, spreading malicious propaganda against the county government. They should wait until 2017 general election so they can face me again at the ballot,” Waithaka said.
Magumu ward representative Githinji Ngumba praised the county government for grading rural-access roads.
