Ruiru MP Simon King'ara serves lunch to Ruiru Primary School pupils on Friday.

All candidates sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations in Ruiru constituency will receive free lunch.

The Simon Ng’ang’a King’ara Foundation will feed some 3,000 candidates from 18 primary schools in the subcounty.

Foundation patron who is also area MP Simon King’ara said that the programme aims to enhance the candidates’ preparations and motivate them to succeed in the examinations.

King’ara said that most of the candidates hail from poor backgrounds and only get a single meal a day.

He spoke at Ruiru Primary School while delivering foodstuff on Friday.

“Not every candidate enjoys two meals in a day and that’s why we decided to help them by providing free lunch,” King’ara said.

Already, cooks who will prepare lunch for the candidates for the next three days have been hired. The candidates will enjoy rice, meat, chapati and fruits.

King’ara said that among the schools that will benefit is Mwiki Primary where over 600 candidates will write their exams.

The lawmaker said that the institution grapples with inadequate facilities for its 3,400 pupils but is one of the best performing public schools within Kiambu county.

“The school sits on land smaller than a football pitch and has a myriad of challenges including fewer classrooms, lavatories and desks. But its candidates beat all these odds and excel in their examinations,” he said.

He said that the government has put in place measures to decongest the school including constructing a new public primary school at Manguo area in Githurai 45.

The national government has pledged Sh10 million to facilitate the project, he said.
