Youths from Murang'a now say they are firmly behind Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

The youth said the Kenya Kwanza administration had failed to live up to the promises it made during the campaigns.

They were speaking in a meeting at Mothers' Union hall, Murang'a.

In the meeting organised by former Murang'a governor and attended by Raila, the youths said they are tired of waiting for the government to better their living standards.

A coffee farmer at the meeting said he produces over 30,000 kilograms annually and had not benefited from the subsidised fertilizer provided by the national government.

"They promised to give us fertilizer immediately they got into power. If a farmer like me did not get it, who did?" He asked.

The male farmer lamented that a large number of locals are still languishing in poverty and have suffered jiggers' infestation.

"Where else in this country have you seen such high numbers of jiggers infestation?" He asked.

"We want a government that empowers us as farmers," he said, reiterating his support for Azimio La Umoja.

Jane Wambui said women have been suffering from joblessness that has heightened poverty and made it difficult for them to tend to their families.

Wambui said despite the Kenya Kwanza government touting itself as a hustlers' administration, hustlers are yet to feel the impact of the many programmes it promised to implement to empower them.

Some of the leaders attending the town hall meeting include Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Jubilee Secretary Jeremiah Kioni, former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, former Laikipia governor Nderitu Mureithi and former water cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.

The leaders will later address locals in Murang'a town and will hold a similar meeting in Nyahururu town in Laikipia county on Friday.

Kioni said it's time for the region to get together and chart its future.

He castigated Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for ordering the closure of bars in the region saying it's not the outlets that have caused alcoholism and that their closure will affect many who depend on them for income.

"No one willingly gets into alcoholism. They are drinking because they don't have something to do."

"If you want your children to be sponsored through their education using government funds like it's happening in other areas, support Raila."
