Faithfuls of a church in Kagundu-ini area in Kandara sub county, Murang’a County, are reeling in shock after thieves broke into the church, stealing property worth Sh121,000.

Pastor Winnie Wairimu of Jesus Winner  Ministry church said the thugs dug a hole through which they accessed the roof-walled church.

They then stole 40 chairs, an amplifier, and a mixer before lighting a fire to burn down some of the properties that included speakers and electric cables.

“They dug a hole into the kitchen that is attached to the church, burnt electric cables before digging another hole into the main church,” the pastor said.

The church that is opposite Kanyoho secondary school was left in disarray following the incident that occurred on Sunday night, hours after the church concluded the Sunday service.

Wairimu appealed to traders dealing in second-hand electronics in the neighboring areas to report to the police in case they receive speakers, microphones, or any of the things the church lost.

“I’ve been preaching at the church for the last two and half years and I have fostered a good relationship with the community,” she said.

Rahab Wanjiru who lives next to the church said they did not hear any commotion through the night and suspect that their dogs could have been sedated as they did not react to the intruders.

“I had recently lost my dog for three days and later found it dead asleep on the farm. It must have been fed with a sedative”.

Joram Njoroge who is a pastor in another local church strongly condemned the burglary saying the church has not been infringing on the lives of the community.

Njoroge urged the thieves to return the things they stole to the church to enable it to continue serving the community.
