Kirinyaga woman rep Njeri Maina has said she will institute criminal and civil charges against all perpetrators who assaulted her early this week within Kerugoya town.

According to her lawyer Otiende Amollo, the perpetrators will include the mastermind and those who executed the vicious act on her and her supporters.

Njeri was assaulted by a group of goons as she and Baragwi MCA David Mathenge responded to a summon at the DCI headquarters in Kerugoya.

The assault led to her hospitalization.

Amollo who had accompanied the woman rep in recording a statement at the DCI headquarters over Tuesday’s incident, said the woman rep has already submitted some of the names of her attackers whom she identified during the incident and others who were captured on video clips which have been doing rounds on social media platforms.

He lauded the investigating officers for their cooperation adding that they are so far satisfied with their work.

He exuded confidence that by early next week, a lot of progress pertaining to the investigation of the case will have been made.

He added that the charges will serve as a lesson to the perpetrators and other criminals who intend to engage in political thuggery within Kirinyaga and the entire country.

The lawyer who also doubles as Rarienda MP said her client had since undergone intense suffering and physical injuries over the fracas and as such will also be suing for damages.

“The first aspect relates to the assault and the bodily harm that she suffered and we have gone through the  recordings with the DCI officers.”

“We will also be seeking compensation over the suffering, pain and expenses she has incurred because she knows who plotted and sent her attackers,” he said.

Amollo further condemned the hooliganism, saying it should not have happened.

He said police stations are centres where citizens should feel secure from all harm and as such termed the occurrence as unfortunate.

The Woman Rep who was in a wheelchair condemned the incident as she rallied the youths to maintain peace and refrain from being used by malicious politicians to settle political scores.

She further exuded confidence that the information she provided would be resourceful in the arrest of her attackers and consequent legal action against them.

Maina further called on her fellow politicians to embrace dialogue in political differences instead of sending goons to attack their opponents.

She however said that despite recovering and being confined in a wheelchair she would continue discharging her mandate without fear.
