Kiambu county bursary disbursement event led by Governor Kimani Wamatangi at PCEA Membley Church, Gitothua ward, Ruiru constituency ended in disarray after chaos ensued.

However, police arrived at the scene to quell the chaos as residents were seen fleeing.

Trouble started after a mob demanded that they be included in the list of bursary beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Biashara ward MCA Kimani wa Nduta told the media that they were not happy with the procedure used to disburse the bursaries.

Nduta said there are ward committees that were lawfully created to distribute the bursaries.

"It would have been easier if the bursary committees were called to the headquarters to receive the cheques and distribute them to residents," he said.

Other MCAs present at the event were John Kamande (Gitothua) and Kennedy Odhiambo (Kahawa Sukari). The MCAs accused Wamatangi of sidelining them in county affairs. Also present  was Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa.

Thang'wa said if Wamatangi does not change his leadership style, then things will not be easy for his administration.

"I asked Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to invite us with the governor so that we can talk. When the governor came to the meeting, he was discussing some irrelevant issues like how he was removed from a WhatsApp group," he said.

The Senator said Wamatangi was not discussing the issues that are affecting the people of Kiambu.

He claimed that Wamatangi did not heed the call to work with the people following the discussion with Gachagua after the June meeting.

Wamatangi on his part said he agreed to collaborate with the county leaders who are ready to work for the people of Kiambu.

"I will work with that leader whose heart is with the people and they know that their goal is to help Kenyans. Leaders who have not yet recognised themselves and they want to continue with politics, let them continue," Wamatangi said.

Currently, the governor is facing an impeachment threat from his MCAs.

The ward reps are accusing Wamatangi of dictatorship, failed leadership and inability to manage the county development plan.

In a press briefing at the county assembly on Monday, the MCAs claimed that the governor operates like a lone ranger and has failed to include them in key decision-making.

Also, at the centre of the wrangles between the county assembly and executive leadership are allegations that Wamatangi has failed to fully constitute his government for effective service delivery, one year after he assumed office.
