Land grabbers in Lari constituency, Kiambu county have been urged to give back the land or risk being exposed.
Lari MP Mburu Kahangara said his office is working closely with the ministries of lands and interior to reclaim the grabbed public land.
He said the land grabbers have slowed development by denying the area government projects.
“We will not allow some people to continue holding our public lands. We are working with relevant ministries and departments so that we can establish which lands were grabbed with the aim of reclaiming them,” Kahangara said.
“We shall reveal them. It is better they surrender the lands. We need to build government offices and other projects that will benefit the locals."
He spoke during a public participation forum at Kirenga chief’s office.
Residents asked government to build a Kenya Medical Training College near Lari level four hospital.
The MP was accompanied by area chief Tabby Njeri, ward administrators Job Hamisi and Gachoka Wanjiru. Oothers were Board of management of Kirenga Primary school and residents of Kirenga location.
Kahangara said a two-acre piece of land from Kirenga primary school will be cut from Kirenga primary to build the training college.
“The Kirenga primary school BOM and parents as well as locals were here and agreed to that. We shall move very fast to actualise the project” he noted.
Samuel Mwaura, a resident said the project will see students who want to pursue nursing and other medical courses enrolled in the college.
“This area is very accessible from the highway and there is a water project which feeds the hospital and the community with water” he noted.
Former Kirenga councilor Chege Thiarara said that if such a school will be built in the area, it would be a milestone for the constituency since it did not have a branch of a national college or even a university.
