The County government of Kiambu has revealed plans to expand one of its busy dispensaries.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi said his government is investing in improving hospitals to ensure residents have access to health facilities in good time.
He said the Gitithia dispensary in the Lari Kirenga ward is an exceptional facility since it serves more than 100 patients daily.
Wamatangi said there are plans to expand Gitithia dispensary to a Level 3 hospital owing to the services it was offering and the number of patients it was handling.
He said the facility will have a mini theatre and a laboratory so that patients are do not have to be referred to Lari Level 4 hospital.
The governor also added that the facility will also have 10 beds for maternity and a general ward with six beds.
"We want to bring services to the people. Health issues are very sensitive and need to be handled with a lot of care," he said.
Wamatangi also noted that his government is working on ensuring the Lari Level 4 hospital which is under construction, is opened in December.
He said residents will no longer need to go for long distances seeking medical services that can be offered at the facility affordably.
He said residents have been offered good services at the county government-funded facility, adding that they have never missed medicines.
"People have always flocked to the facility. They say they are treated well. They have also been telling us to expand the facility since it has ample land to build more structures" the governor said.
Area MCA Josphat Kinyanjui who used to be a board member before being elected, lauded the nurses Caroline Ngugi and Triza Munyua for managing the facility well.
"The facility is meant for Gitithia location residents. Surprisingly, its name has gone beyond boundaries and patients come from very far. No one has ever been turned away" Kinyanjui said.
He said patients normally come from Uplands, Lari Kirenga ward, Bibirioni, Limuru central and a few from Ndeiya wards.
Bibirioni MCA Christopher Ireri said his ward does not have a dispensary, adding that residents are forced to seek medical attention at Gitithia dispensary or far away in Limuru town dispensary.
"We do not have a dispensary at Bibirioni. Our people either attend private clinics around or go to Gitithia and Limuru town dispensary," he said.
A resident Nancy Wanjiru, said the dispensary has been of great help, adding that the staff are friendly and ready to help.
Ireri however urged the governor to speed up the construction of a Level 4 hospital in Bibirioni ward.
