An attempt to impeach Murang’a speaker Johnson Mukuha has flopped after some MCAs withdrew their signatures on the notice of impeachment.

The notice had been tabled by Rwathia MCA Kenneth Kamau on November 28 and raised misappropriation of funds and financial management as some of the grounds for his impeachment.

The speaker was also accused of nepotism, insubordination, micromanaging the assembly business and finances, and violation of chapter four of the constitution on bills of rights and chapter six of the constitution on leadership and integrity.

The motion was expected to be debated Tuesday, December 5.

Deputy speaker Moses Gachui however released a communication to the MCAs on Tuesday that indicated that the motion had failed to garner the one-third of signatures required to push the motion through and had therefore flopped.

“The office of the clerk has received withdrawal of signatures on the notice of motion on removal from office of the speaker from members of the assembly,” a letter written by Gachui read in part.
