Former Kiambu Women Representative Ann Nyokabi has urged women to join Women's groups that will help them to be self-reliant.

Nyokabi said with the current economy people need to support each other to make ends meet.

"When women come together they can start up Chamas that will enable them to qualify for loans to start up a business," Nyokabi told the Star during an interview in Nairobi on Monday.

She said it is time for women to be there for each other to reduce the high prevalence of mental health issues that are on the rise due to the high cost of living.

She said women are always the most vulnerable or directly affected since they have to fully be there and provide for the family whether employed or not employed.

Nyokabi called on women to also engage in some business that will earn them a living.

"Let us believe in ourselves, have that confidence that we can set this business and expand within a duration of time. This can only apply if we are focused, creative, and ready to support each other," Nyokabi said.

She said no women should fear to have a business plan regardless of how small a business can be since it can grow after some time.

She said there are so many opportunities awaiting creative people.

She called on the public to make use of the rainy season in planting food and harvesting the water that will be used during the dry season.

Nyokabi said there is a need for the government to provide households or women groups with enough talks to harvest more water for irrigation during the coming dry season.

"With all put in place we can reduce the cases of high cost of living that are majorly affecting Kenyans today," she said.
