Learning activities almost came to a standstill at Thigio Primary School in Ndeiya ward on Monday when pupils learnt that their teacher of English had been stabbed to death.

Teachers had a difficult time consoling them, even as they tried to come to terms with the incident.

Kenya National Union of Teachers from the Kiambu West branch visited the school to encourage the teachers and learners.

Led by branch secretary Michael Muna, the officials said the teaching fraternity had lost a hardworking, humble and approachable teacher.

Family members said that Irene Ng'endo was stabbed by an unknown person on Saturday afternoon at her home in Kamirithu village in Limuru constituency in Kiambu county.

One of them Njenga Murugami said she started screaming and neighbours came.

"When neighbours arrived, they did not see anyone leaving. They only saw her trying to scroll outside her house" he said.

"They called a taxi and rushed her to Tigoni hospital, where she was pronounced dead."

Confirming the incident, Limuru subcounty police commander Phillip Mwania said no one had been arrested in the Saturday incident.

"She was stabbed in the abdomen and the attacker left. No one was at that home" Mwania said.

Speaking from his office in Limuru town, Mwania said the attacker carried away the object he used to stab Ng'endo with to conceal evidence.

He added that nothing was stolen from the house.

"Her phones and handbag were in the house which was also smart. There were signs of struggle during the stabbing" he said.

Mwania added that they had launched investigations into the incident to unearth what happened.

Mwania also appealed to the family to assist the DCI detectives with any details they may need to establish what happened.
