Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Analo declined a request by the accused that he be committed to non-custodial sentence.
This was after the court established he was a repeat offender.
The accused had pleaded guilty to charges of stealing a goat worth Sh15,000, property of his neighbour on September 3, at Ndutuni village in Murang’a East Subcounty.
The court had ordered for a probation report before making the ruling where it was established he had a record of stealing.
In mitigation, he pleaded for forgiveness promising to change his behaviour.
His plea was objected to by the prosecution on grounds that he had committed several similar offences in the past.
The magistrate said the two-year jail term will serve as a deterrent and help the accused to reform.
