MEET THE PEOPLE: President Uhuru Kenyatta addresses wananchi in Mtwapa, Kilifi county, on Sunday. He has been at the Coast since December 24 last year.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been spending most of his nights at his seaside Nyali residence since he came to Mombasa on December 24 last year.

His father Jomo Kenyatta used to spend most of his time in South Coast, Msambweni, if he was not at State House, Mombasa.

But Uhuru has been sleeping in his house in Nyali, near Governor Hassan Joho’s residence.

Sources have confirmed that although the Kenyatta family also has a lavish house at the expansive Tiririka farm on the Mombasa-Malindi highway, the President enjoys his nights at the Nyali house.

The farm, which stretches from Sai Rock Hotel, all the way to Whitesands Beach Hotel, has been their family property for years.

The houses were constructed deep in the farm and cannot be seen from the highway.

The President has spent less than two days at State House, which has been undergoing a minor face-lift with its green walls being repainted.

His Nyali house, which is near Light Academy, extends to the beach and has a view of the sea in the upmarket area of Mombasa.

The highly guarded posh house has a red roof and white walls.

The source, who cannot be named due to protocol, says the outer gate is made of varnished wooden planks.

The inner gate is steel and opens automatically, the source said.

Access is restricted, save for a few loyal leaders such as Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro.

After a tour of the Kongowea market last week, he joined the President for the evening.

Other sources say Uhuru has also stayed at the VIP rooms at the Voyager Hotel.

His father used to enjoy his time in Matuga, Waa, Msambweni areas, and had a farm at Gazi, where he also spent the nights.
