Deputy Government spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga has urged Kwale women to join empowerment groups and form companies to improve their lives.

Chidzuga said women's development will support the growth of the economy and cushion them from the pangs of poverty.

She said the involvement of women in income-generating activities results in improved family status and development.

"Things have changed, kindly invest in small enterprises to support yourselves and your families," she said.

She said the women should take advantage of the various government funds and empowerment programmes set to benefit them.

She said women must be courageous and go-getters to accomplish their life goals.

Chidzuga said the female gender should stop doubting itself and team up to become productive in all aspects of the economy, adding that the time of depending on men for everything is over and must work hard to fit in and take their spaces in development.

The former journalist said the government will always be there to support them and ensure women and youth become successful.

Mining Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said the government is committed to supporting women.  He said forming small companies is one way of realising the bottom-up economic agenda.

"We welcome such initiatives because they empower the poor people at the grassroots level which is in line with the Kenya Kwanza manifestos," he said.

Mvurya said through his docket the government launched Sh1 billion fund to support women in the blue economy development, noting that the women should come up with activities that promote the blue economy to benefit from the funds.

The CS added that enough money has been allocated to ensure women are properly empowered to change their lives. He said the funds are not a loan but grants to empower them.

Mvurya said the Hustler Fund is there and women should create registered groups to effectively benefit from the programme.

Governor Fatuma Achani said her administration is determined to elevate women's empowerment, noting that at least 40 women groups have been assisted to register as companies by the county.

The county chief said the initiative is part of the county's efforts to transform the lives of women and enhance their resilience.

She said most of the group members are already making a fortune through the county tenders.
