Police have arrested two suspects linked with the murder of a 65-year-old woman on claims she is a witch in Kilifi county.

Another 70-year-old woman was rescued on Wednesday morning in Domar village, police said.

Such incidents are common in the area, where elderly people are targeted and killed over claims they are involved in witchcraft.

Police term the trend criminal and have warned of action on those involved.

The body of the woman was found in a thicket with multiple injuries.

The second victim of attempted murder was rescued by members of the public after she screamed.

Police were called and they arrested two suspect.

Area police commander Fatuma Hadi said they are hunting for more suspects over the murder.

She said they will investigate the incident and others and take action.

The body was moved to Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

National government officials have been conducting civic education in the area to stop the killings.

Many elderly people have panicked and fled to save their lives.

Police have in the past years arrested and charged suspects with murder over such incidents.

In Endebess, Trans Nzoia county, police are investigating the killing of a man who was accused of stealing potatoes from a farm.

Abraham Simiyu was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital after he had been beaten up by a mob.

Police said he had a fracture on the left leg and internal injuries as he was bleeding from the nose and mouth.

The body was moved to Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary pending  postmortem and further probe.
