Mining CS Salim Mvurya has called for a national dialogue for a proper solution to regulating muguka.

He said the drug is wreaking havoc on many youth's lives in the coastal region hence the need to have it regulated.

The CS spoke on Saturday at Mwandamo village in Msambwenj, Kwale County, in commemoration of World Ocean Day.

Mvurya said muguka has many side effects similar to other drugs and leaders must intervene to save the lives of the young people.

"Muguka is a stimulant drug, and its effects are devastating, so let's not lie to one another and instead work on ways in which we can find a better solution to this problem," he said.

He added that all leaders must be involved and collectively agree that muguka is a time bomb killer, and it shatters the dreams of many youths.

The CS said he fully supports the coastal governors on measures taken to regulate muguka.

He lauded Kwale County for developing a policy to firmly combat muguka and other drugs in the region.

Mvurya said it was a bold move to have established a county law to fight the drug since Muguka is categorised as a cash crop.

He urged the youth indulging in muguka and other drugs to reform and instead engage in meaningful activities.

The CS stressed that parents should take front positions in guiding their children against all forms of drugs.

He lamented that youth are increasingly becoming drug addicts because parents have failed their parental responsibilities.

Mvurya said parents should mould their children from an early age to become responsible members of society.

Kwale Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo said the county is determined to fight and eradicate all forms of drug abuse.

He said drugs have no room in Kwale and that the county is working hard to choke the muguka distribution and its consumption in Kwale.

Kombo called in residents to support the county's efforts in fighting muguka adding that it has numerous negative health implications.
