Hundreds of Kwale residents on Friday took to the streets to protest against the disputed Finance Bill 2024-25.

The locals expressed their disappointment as all the county MPs voted yes during the second reading of the bill.

The residents whose majority were youth strongly condemned the leaders terming them as selfish.

A youth leader Sumeiya Omar said that Generation Z they are going to ensure all leaders who voted for the bill are held accountable.

Omar said they would send home all the leaders that sold them to what they referred to as a punitive bill.

"Don't amend the finance bill, we don't want it completely and be warned in the third reading vote or we replace you," she said.

Technical University of Mombasa Kwale Campus student Sandra Omwake said the finance bill is very oppressive and seeks to subject them to poverty.

She said the leaders still have time to do the right thing.

Omwake said as youth they are following keenly and watch every step leaders make.

Another youth Juma Ngati urged the younger generation to arm themselves with votes and remove incompetent leaders in 2027.

He said that they are tired and won't tolerate further torture.

"Go take your votes and in 2027 make sure that traitor goes home," he said.

Ngati stated that MPs who support the bill will only have a short time to enjoy it before regretting their decisions in the future.

He said the youth will kick them out in the next elections and feel their pain.

Maggy Onyingu said it is unfair for young people to spend four years on campus with Helb loans and then be overtaxed by the government while they are unemployed.

She said the economy is wreaking havoc on young people and the finance bill will worsen things.

Onyingu said as Generation Z stans firm against oppressive laws and leaders and that they will send them home.

Najma Mwandoto said Kenyans don't want the finance bill because it will affect businesses and the economy.

She said that they feel betrayed after voting for the Kenya Kwanza government based on the good promises made.

Mwandoto expressed regret because life is increasingly difficult, contrary to what Kenyans were promised.

She said all the leaders who voted for the bill have a chance to straighten up things or consider themselves jobless in 2027.

Human Rights Agenda Public Complaint Officer Mwinyihajji Chamosi said they have joined the youth to reject the bill adding that it will crucify Kenyans.

He said the bill would press Kenyans to the ground and leave them helpless.

Chamosi said as rights organisations they will call for more protests to ensure Kenyans' rights and voices are respected.
