Body of Comoro fisherman recovered in Mpeketoni, another rescued alive

The body of a fisherman believed to be from Comoros Island has been recovered on the Indian Ocean at Tenewi area in Mpeketoni, Lamu West.

Another fisherman was rescued alive in the same area.

The two had been reported missing shortly after they ventured into the deep seas in their home country of Comoros Island two weeks ago.

The recovery was confirmed by the Consulate of Comoros, Mohamed Farhan who identified the rescued fisherman as 33-year-old Ibrahim Ali Mjeni.

The two hail from the Hada Anjouan region on Comoros Island.

“They had gone missing two weeks ago in my home country. I can confirm that they have been found, one is deceased while the other one was rescued alive in Mpeketoni. The rescued fisherman is currently at the Mpeketoni police station,” said Farhan.

He said his office was working on repatriating the fisherman back to Comoros in two weeks while the deceased will be buried in Kenya.

“We are working on taking him back home. Our deceased brother will be buried here,” he said.

Two weeks ago, another duo from the same country were rescued at Kui near Kiunga on the Kenya-Somalia border after they went missing for close to three weeks.

The two, Farooq Abbas,26, and Ismael Ahmed,42, from Mdomoni within Adjouan Island in Comoro have since been repatriated.
