A group of Lamu elders on Friday condemned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over remarks he made against NIS Director Noordin Haji.

Addressing the media over the incident, the group led by Mohammed Madhbuti said the attack on Haji was unwarranted.

The group noted that they will not allow their son Noordin to be targeted saying they are confident in his work and they will continue to support him.

"As Lamu and Muslim elders, we cannot see pretty and watch as Gachagua, the second in command and who should show leadership, tears down Noordin," Madhbuti said in a statement on behalf of the elders.

"Why he settled on Noordin and left other security operators remains a puzzle."

The elders called for unity of purpose in government saying reading from different scripts risks jeopardising the security of the nation.

"Discord among leaders is detrimental and they should speak with one voice to effectively address the problem at hand," Madhbuti said,

"There is a pressing issue at hand which demands unity among our leaders."

They said continued divergence in leaders' messaging risks confusing the public and undermining confidence in the collective ability to tackle the issues at hand.

"And it's not just about the present; our younger generations look to these leaders for guidance and inspiration," Madhbuti added.

"Consistent and unified messaging from our leaders is essential to provide clarity and assurance to our youth, who are shaping our future."

The elders went on to demand an apology from Gachagua over the remarks he made

They also expressed support for the country's Gen Zs saying they have a right to to express themselves peacefully.

"We as Lamu elders encourage the younger generation to voice their opinions and participate in decisions that affect them, as we believe that their voice is crucial for their development and for fostering a healthy democratic society" Madhbuti said.

"To the parents, brothers and sisters who lost their loved ones, we say inna lilahi wainna illehi rajiun. May Allah rest their soul in entire peace na awape subira wakati muugumu kama huno."
