Jomvu MP Badi Twalib has called on the Mombasa county government to erect a statue or name a road in Mombasa after the late billionaire Hasmukh Patel to honour him.

Twalib said Patel has left a legacy so big that he has to be remembered, especially in Mombasa and other parts of Kilifi and Kwale counties.

Speaking after he met the family members at their Nyali residence, where he had gone to pay his condolences, Twalib said Patel had a rare big heart that would be hard to emulate.

He said there must be a special mark in Mombasa to help generations remember him or learn about him.

“The Hasuu legacy must continue. His name must be remembered. He has left a very big hole in Mombasa in all spheres."

“It is only befitting that a statue of him be erected or a major street or road is named after him to, in some way, honour his unmatched legacy,” Twalib said.

Twalib and Patel had a close relationship, with Patel spending most of his time in Jomvu where he had an office.

“As you know, his main office was in my constituency, and he helped most of my people get jobs. He was a very close friend of Jomvu constituency,” Twalib said.

The Jomvu MP called for calm in Mombasa, saying although the blow is huge, God has a reason for everything he does, and the only thing to do is pray for the departed industrialist.

“For those who used to depend on him, there will be other ways that they will be helped. God cannot forsake his people,” he said.

He called on the family to continue Patel’s legacy of giving to the poor and making their lives more decent and easier.
