A new police station has been opened in Kianjokoma after the death of two brothers on August 1.

Police from the nearby Manyatta station arrested Benson Njiru, 22, and Emmanuel Mutura, 19, for allegedly flouting curfew.

Their bodies were found two days later at Embu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary

Embu North and East subcounty security heads together with area leaders on Monday convened a reconciliation meeting where the new Kianjokoma Police station was officially opened.

Residents said they were happy but it’s not clear how their relationship with the police will turn out.

Among the present were senior officers led by Embu North deputy county commissioner Jeremiah Tumo, Embu East deputy county commissioner George Omollo, Manyatta police station boss Abdullahi Alio and business community leaders among others.

Tumo assured the residents of professional service by the new officers and a good working relationship.

“One of the resolutions we agreed upon was to operationalise Kianjokoma station. We have brought new officers who will implement things with consultation with the leadership, listen to your problems, advice and they will not take the law into their hands,” he said.

Tumo also said the station will receive a vehicle in a month’s time to enable efficiency in operations.

He called upon the residents and the officers to respect the boundaries established for Kianjokoma police station to help in diminishing the awful incidences that occurred in the past weeks.

The station was brought into effectiveness with several things yet to take place but the security heads had to keep the promise of bringing the station to function within a week.

“We will ensure we do the ground-breaking for residential houses for officers to be constructed and also consider a perimeter fence to secure the station and members of the public who come to report their issues,” he said.

The subcounty head announced that the station was ready for work and citizens should feel free to seek any service.

Residents lauded the step and expressed their confidence in the new station which they said will strengthen the security in Kianjokoma, which had deteriorated.

“We have been suffering from security threats for the past three years. I urge the business persons who fled from this place due to security threats to consider relocating and ensure we regain the good scent of business in Kianjokoma,” businessman Henry Kae said.

Kianjokoma faced security woes after what was suspected to be the murder of two brothers by the police, causing three-day demonstrations which also left Moses Kimanthi dead due to a gunshot.
