Kenyans are suffering and it is time President William Ruto should listen to their plight and takes urgent measures to reduce the cost of living, Yatta MP Robert Basil has said.

Basil said life has become unbearable for most Kenyans, saying that they are overburdened with taxation by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

"We are currently living in hard times under President William Ruto’s leadership. I urge him to be humane enough and lower the cost of living. Kenyans are suffering,” Basil said.

He spoke during a fundraiser at Kyua Catholic church in his constituency on Saturday.

Basil told the President to lower costs of fuel claiming that oil and gas prices had globally reduced by 5. 8 per cent.

“We want to tell you Mr. President, you have indicated that the reason why oil prices is going up is because of the ongoing war in Palestine and Israel," he said.

"That’s a lie, Israel doesn’t produce oil, gas and the global prices of oil has reduced by 5.8 percent, the reason why our neighboring country Tanzania has reduced fuel prices.

"So, you need to follow suit and lower the oil prices for other commodities to go down, eventually lowering costs of living. The inflation and over taxation is too much on Kenyans now."

He said all Kenyans should access government services since they all pay taxes out of their hard earned earnings.

“As a President you can't afford to keep watch when innocent Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living,” Basil said.
