Meru opinion leaders have urged the DCI not to allow the investigations into the killing of Meru political activist Daniel Muthiani popularly known as Sniper to be politicised.

Former Tigania West MP David Karithi said that there are so many rumours on social media surrounding the death of the political activist.

"The DCI officers should not follow what is being said on social media. They should do their investigations. Those who called Sniper irrespective of their political affiliations should be investigated by the law," Karithi said.

He said police should boost security for people working in the Meru county government following an incident where the Meru Chief of staff house was raided and his relatives attacked.

Karithi said there might be attempts by Governor  Kawira Mwangaza's rivals to link the county boss to the murder.

Former Nkuene MCA Nick Mburugu echoed Karithi's sentiments saying investigations should be conducted fairly.

The Meru chief of staff Harison Gatobu said his residence was invaded a few days ago and two of his relatives were injured by people purporting to be police officers but one was arrested and arraigned in court for impersonation.

Gatobu disputed claims that he had been arrested or summoned by anyone.

Gatobu said the arrest of people should be formalized so that it does not create tension.

Edwin Kiongozi said some people have been picked up by Subaru's by people purporting to be police.

"Until now their whereabouts are still unknown. Even if there are investigations, they should be conducted in a manner that should not violate their constitutional right. They should be arraigned," Kiongozi said.

Kiongozi said people should be summoned to the DCI  instead of being 'abducted'.

He said the director of communication in the Meru county government Ken Gacigi and a resident known as Pope were taken away by people purporting to be police officers on Wednesday.

Mugambi Kimathi said they want Justice for Sniper but the process of getting Justice should not be politicised.

Kimathi said there should be no double standards in investigating those who were involved in the murder.
