Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has led some Ukambani leaders in condemning the alleged goons who stormed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's presser at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation on Wednesday.

"It's unacceptable for a presidential candidate to be chased away by goons. This is extremely unfortunate, ODM must treat Kalonzo Musyoka with respect," Mutla said.

The Wiper leader was addressing the press when the youths numbering more than 50 stormed the tent claiming they would not allow any leader to disrespect Raila.

"Nobody disrespects Raila when we are alive, no press conference here," the youths shouted as they turned chairs upside down.

The leaders were whisked away to safety, cutting short the press briefing where the Azimio Coalition leadership had declared they would not be party to the proposed broad-based talks shortly after Raila had left the venue.

Mutula reiterated that Kalonzo has been loyal to Raila but betrayal has been the order of the day.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has since apologised to the media after journalists were roughed up by goons at his function.

He added that Azimio would get to the root of how the goons were able to breach security to interrupt the event.

"Raila Odinga regrets the events of yesterday (Wednesday) and takes this early opportunity to offer unreserved apologies to the journalists and fellow leaders who got caught up in the unfortunate incident."

"Hon. Odinga assures the journalists and fellow leaders that the coalition will take stock of the events and seal loopholes that led to the security breach to ensure that journalists and leaders remain safe and free at all Azimio functions, including those at the same venue," his spokesperson Dennis Onyango said.

Moreover, Mutula mentioned that this time Kalonzo will not condone Raila's 'tricks' but rather remain focused.

"We as Kamba leaders under the leadership of Kalonzo are not relenting. Raila go join Ruto and don't force us to follow you," he said.

Mutula said that the Ukambani region will support Kalonzo's presidential bid in 2027.

In addition, he said that the country needs peace and full adherence to the Constitution, saying Kalonzo is the safe pair of hands that can usher Kenya into prosperity.

"It's now two years after these guys got elected into office and they have bought choppers and are living very cosy lives, I believe Kalonzo cannot misuse poor Kenyans, " Mutula said.

He called upon the rioters and looters in the name of Gen Z to abstain from destruction and instead embrace peace.

Mutula words were echoed by Kisungi Katete, the leader of the majority in the Makueni County Assembly among others present at the event.
