The Ethics and Anti–Corruption Commission has launched a 100-day rapid training initiative on graft prevention for the Machakos County executive.

EACC’s commissioner Colonel (Rtd) Alfred Mshimba said the training had been requested by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

“As EACC, we are here on the invitation of Machakos County Government, courtesy of Governor Wavinya Ndeti. The reason why we are here is to partner with Machakos County on corruption prevention measures,” Mshimba said.

The EACC official spoke when they met Ndeti together with her deputy Francis Mwangangi alongside her cabinet at her White House offices in Machakos town on Wednesday.

“As EACC, we believe that prevention is better than cure, and we are here to work together, seal all loopholes on areas which are prone to corruption,” Mshimba said.

Mshimba said the training was collaborative.

“We will be together for rapid initiative which will be 100 days. For the 100 days, the EACC staff and Machakos County Government will be working closely together,” he said.

The EACC commissioner said as a commission, they had also worked with other institutions such as the Immigration Department and National Police Service.

He said they will continue partnering with other county governments and central government ministries.

Ndeti welcomed the commission’s initiative stating she was going to sleep well knowing she wasn’t fighting on her own, they have a big team.

“We always say prevention is better than cure. You have come here to educate us on what we should be doing as a county to ensure we don’t go to cure but prevent things before they happen. We know there are lots of things that need to be done,” Ndeti said.

She added, “You interact with mwananchi, wananchi give you feedback on what they want. You interact with us (counties), we tell you where we have problems and we are happy today. We are going to work together for at least the next 100 days to ensure that systems that need to be fine-tuned and implemented are so done for the sake of our people.”

The county CEO said young people in the country had spoken well.

He said the Gen Zs had said they don’t want corruption, but accountability.

“I can assure you, as the governor of Machakos County, our doors are open to you. We will walk the journey with you to educate us and ensure that our people don’t fall into such traps," Ndeti said.

"Thanks very much for coming, and what we have agreed on to form those committees, we will form them and start working with immediate effect to ensure that our services are rendered to the people."

Ndeti said they are civil servants hence supposed to work for the people, the people aren’t supposed to work for them.

“We look forward to working with you. I can tell you for free, today I’m going to sleep very well because I know I’m not fighting on my own, we have a big team fighting to make sure that there is accountability,” Ndeti said.
