Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has reassured residents that the Makueni Care Social Health Fund Programme, launched in 2016,  continues to function effectively.

The Governor addressed concerns during a WhatsApp Question and Answer forum organized by the Mbooni Tibim group.

He praised healthcare workers for their tireless efforts in achieving Universal Healthcare in the county.

The forum was convened by Winnie Mukosi, one of the group's administrators after members expressed worries about the program's effectiveness.

In response to these concerns, the County Executive Committee Member for Healthcare Services, Dr. Paul Musila, shared a memo dated August 23 affirming that Makueni Care remains operational.

Dr Musila emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance access to promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative healthcare services while reducing residents' high out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.

He dismissed reports that the Makueni Care card was no longer accepted at county health facilities.

Additionally, Dr Musila directed Chief Officers Dr Stephene Ndolo, Dr Harvey Mulei, and other departmental directors to continue registering new patients and providing the necessary support.

Dr Mulei noted that promotions for healthcare workers are ongoing, with the department holding monthly meetings to address related issues.

Chief Officer for Health Services, Dr Ndolo, announced that the county had purchased two new ambulances in the last financial year and has budgeted for another in the current year.

He explained that the older ambulances had become costly to maintain, and replacements would be made as the budget permits.
