1,500 students from Ngoto Boys High School, Makueni, have been sent home indefinitely after they razed down a dormitory and destroyed property of unknown value Wednesday evening.

The irate students went on the rampage at about 6pm.

Nzaui Subcounty Director of Education John Musango said the school Board of Management closed the school on Thursday indefinitely.

"The students will be informed when to resume learning after the construction of a new dormitory where they can sleep,"  Musango said.

"I do not know the motive that led the students to go on a rampage. However, we shall know after the area subcounty criminal investigation officer completes investigations," Musango added.

The dormitory that was burnt housed 175 students.

Their valuables were razed in the inferno and nothing was salvaged from the raging fire.

The torching of the dormitory at the school is the second incident this year.

Efforts to speak to the principal were futile as the media was denied entry into the school.
