Police in Makindu Subcounty rescued two suspects from irate citizens who wanted to lynch them for allegedly murdering a boda boda rider a week ago.

The incident occurred in the Upper Manyatta Sublocation in Upper Makindu town on Sunday.

The police used teargas to disperse the irate mob who were baying for the blood of the two suspects.

"The two suspects allegedly linked to the murder of a bodaboda rider Joseph Kamala were rescued from the angry Makindu residents who wanted to lynch them. They are now in police custody at Makindu Police Station," Riungu Laikera, Makindu Subcounty Deputy County Commissioner (DCC)  said.

"A total of three suspects were arrested in connection to the incident. The first one was killed at Makindu Hospital compound by bodaboda riders a few days ago," Riungu added.

The suspect was attacked by irate wananchi at Manyatta and later taken to Makindu Hospital for treatment.

Angry residents allegedly ejected him from the hospital and killed him thereafter.

Traffic along the  Mombasa-Nairobi highway was disrupted briefly when the incident occured.

Riungu said the situation was tense but police are alert and have managed the situation.

The bodaboda rider who was murdered a week ago was dumped at Mulilii Sublocation and his motorcycle was stolen.
