A minor has been charged with allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Machakos County.

The 17-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to the offence when he was arraigned in Kangundo Law Courts on Wednesday.

The accused, who appeared before magistrate Daffline Surr faced a second count of touching the 12-year-old's private part.

The court heard that the suspect allegedly committed the offences on diverse dates at Tala Township in Matungulu subcounty.

The magistrate ordered that the minor be subjected to mental assessment in an accredited public hospital before he reappears in court.

The suspect has been locked up at Tala police station.

He will reappear before Surr on September 13.
