Principal Secretary for Medical Services Harry Kimtai on Monday led the launch and presentation of digitisation devices in Embu County.
This marks a major milestone in the county’s Taifa Care implementation.
Embu is the second county in Kenya to integrate digital healthcare solutions.
Present during the event include Embu County Deputy Governor Kinyua Mugo, Senior Advisor at the Council of Economic Advisors at State House Moses Kuria, the Social Health Authority acting CEO Robert Ingasira, the acting CEO of the Digital Health Agency Anthony Lenaiyara, Daniel Mwai, and Dr Thuranira Kaugiria.
PS Kimtai reaffirmed that SHA is fully operational and emphasised the importance of adherence to guidelines, highlighting improvements in the benefits package and revenue collection.
The event focused on the rollout of the Health Management Information System (HMIS) and the establishment of a human resource health record system for Embu County.
This is aimed at streamlining healthcare workforce management and enhancing service delivery.
This engagement reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to digital transformation in public healthcare, ensuring better coordination of resources, efficient management of medical supplies, and improved patient care.
In February, the PS convened a meeting with private health providers from Rural, Urban and Private Hospitals Association (RUPHA), the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH) and Faith-Based Organisations (FBOs).
The aim of the meeting was to deepen their understanding of the global budget payment mechanism for outpatient services at the primary healthcare (PHC) level.
The engagement also focused on the rollout of SHA.
PS Kimtai reassured stakeholders of the availability of funds for primary healthcare and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to addressing concerns promptly.
