
Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma has sent the names of ten nominees for the positions of Executive Committee members for vetting before he officially appoints them to their various dockets.
According to a message read out in the County Assembly by the Speaker, Ayub Bundi, on Tuesday morning, Mr Isaac Kinoti Marete from Buuri, a political analyst and a 2022 senatorial aspirant in the county has been nominated to head the department of lands, physical planning, urban development, housing, and public works.
CPA Monica Kaithiori Kathono from Tigania East, who was also serving in the impeached Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s regime, has made a comeback and will be heading the finance and economic planning docket if approved by the county assembly.
Dr Dennis Muriungi Mugambi from Imenti Central who has been heading Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) in the county has been nominated to the docket of health services, while the Methodist Church of Kenya’s Reverend Carol Karea Kaberia from Igembe South will lead the Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives docket.
Dr Esther Rukunga also from Igembe South and an educationist, has been entrusted with the Education. Science, Culture, and Arts Docket, while Advocate Maranya Domisioano Mari from Tigania West will steer the legal affairs, Public Service Management and Administration Docket.
Water, Irrigation, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate change docket will be led by Advocate Baptista Kanyaru Muriki from Igembe Central who has a wealth of experience in tea industry.
For the Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Development Docket, Governor Mutuma has nominated former Municipality MCA Elias Murega from Imenti North. Murega has been in the frontline in trying to improve sports in the County and this docket will fit him well.
Mr Janaro Gatangugi from Imenti South and who served in the first Meru County government under Peter Munya made a comeback and will be serving in his former Agriculture, livestock and fisheries docket.
Governor Mutuma also nominated former Chief officer Mr David Baariu from Igembe North to the Roads, Transport and Energy docket.
Understandably, the governor, in his quest for regional balance, has nominated an executive member from each of the nine constituencies in the county.
Consequently, Speaker Bundi referred the ten names to the appointment committee which will vet the nominees on April 17 and present a report to the assembly on April 22.
