More senior police officers have retired, triggering changes in the National Police Service.
Deputy Inspector General APS Noor Gabow on Friday announced the changes following the retirements on July 1.
Retirees include Charles Karege, principal assistant to the DIG of Administration Police. He was replaced by James Akoru.
Mukuha Kamau has replaced Musa Kakawa as the commandant of the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi.
Okech Owino is the new commandant of the Rapid Deployment Unit.
Robinson Mboloi is the acting Rift Valley regional police commander after Mercus Ochola took his terminal leave on July 1, pending his retirement.
Elsewhere, two senior directorate of criminal investigations officers retired after serving for more than 40 years.
The director of investigations bureau John Kariuki and head of operations Henry Ondiek bowed out of the service after attaining retirement age.
Carrey Nyawinda will act as the director of investigations while Bernard Gicheru will act as the director of operations. The changes were approved by DCI George Kinoti.
“I wish you well as you continue to serve members of the public. For those with whom I may have crossed swords for one reason or the other, be assured there was nothing personal and count it as a hazard of the job," Kariuki said in his letter to his colleagues.
He had served for 33 years.
Ondiek attributed his 41 years of service to cooperation between various players in the service.
“I appreciate all my colleagues, both uniformed and non-uniformed for support, encouragement and providing a shoulder to lean on,” he said in a memo to his colleagues.
More senior officers are set to retire from the service this year. A planned reshuffle of the senior officers following the exits is pending.
Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai congratulated them for the service they offered.
