The vetting of Nairobi's Governor Johnson Sakaja's Cabinet nominees will start on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Clerk of the County Assembly of Nairobi Edward Gichana through a notice on Wednesday said that the 10 cabinet nominees will face the Appointment committee for vetting which will take three days.
“Section 7 of the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approvals ), Act, 2017 requires the committee to determine and notify the nominees and the general public of the time and place of the approval hearings,” reads the notice.
Charles Kerich (Finance and Economic Planning) will be the first nominee to be vetted on November 14, 2022, starting at 9:00 am, Michael Gumo (Innovation and digital ) at 10:30 am and Brian Mulama ( Talents, skills, development and care) at 12 noon.
CEC nominee for mobility and works Patrick Mbogo will face the panel at 2 pm.
On Tuesday, Ibrahim Auma (Boroughs Administration and personnel) will be vetted at 9:00 am, Stephen Mwangi (Buildings and urban planning) at 10:30 am, and Rosemary Kariuki (Hustlers and business opportunities) will be the last to be vetted at 12 noon.
Maureen Njeri (Green Nairobi ) will be first to be vetted on November 16, 2022, followed by Anastacia Mutethia (Health, wellness, and nutrition) at 10:30 am and Susan Silantoi who will be in charge of inclusivity, and public participation and customer service will be vetted at 12 noon.
The nominees are required to collect questionnaire forms from the Office of the clerk at the county assembly between November 3, 2022- November 4, 2022, and brought with relevant supporting documents next week on Monday, November 7, 2022, and Tuesday.
Clerk Gichana also noted that the nominees will be required to appear before the committee with original copies of the required supporting documents.
Once vetted, the committee will recommend to the house for the CECs approval or rejection.
Sakaja also named David Njoroge as his Chief Of Staff, Lawrence Wambua as his Economic Affairs Advisor, Elias Mutuma (Legal Advisor), Dr. Samora Otieno (Health Advisor), William Ndung’u ‘Fazul’(Political Advisor) and Prof. Washington Yotto Ochieng as his Mobility Advisor.
However, they are not subjected to vetting.
He sent home all members of the executive serving in his predecessor Anne Kananu's administration, except Jairus Musumba.
“This is the Executive team that we shall work with to make Nairobi a working city of order, dignity, hope and opportunity for all,” Sakaja said.
